Fried Modak 


For cover

  • 1 cup wheat flour
  • 1 tea spoon salt
  • 1 table spoon ghee
  • 1/2 cup warm water 

For feeling 

  • 1 cup grated coconut
  • 1/2 cup suji
  • 1 table spoon dry roasted poppy seeds ( khas khas)
  • 2 cups jaggery (gur) 
  • 1 tea spoon cardamom powder ( elachi )


For cover

  • Mix the flour , salt and ghee in the bowl , add water and knead well .
  • Dough should be soft, keep aside for 15 minutes.

For Feeling 

  • Heat ghee in a pan.
  • Add suji saute it for 5 minutes, let it be golden brown but care full not to burn.
  • Then Add shredded coconut , roasted poppy seeds, saute again for 3 to 4 minutes.
  • Add Jaggery , let it be melt properly and the add cardamom power.
  • Stuffing is ready.


  • Make a small balls of the dough , roll into puris.
  • Modak should be crispy so roll puries thin, u can make by hand as well.
  • Take a puri in your palm , fold the edges , now iit will look like a small container, and spread spoon full of stuffing over on the puri,  as in picture.

  •  Now gather the edges in the center , seal it properly.

  • Heat the oil and deep fry the modaks . the oil should not be too hot because modak's can get burnt and remain uncooked from inside.
  • Stir them regular interval to make sure that they are cooked from inside.
  • Store them in a air tight container
  • Offer to Ganesha .
