Carob Cake (Moist carob cake)

Carob is substitute of chocolate, I got to know when i came into krishna consciousness because we cant offer chocolate cake to lord. It's little different from chocolate  but delicious in taste. I learned this recipe from and made  few changes.


1 cup sugar
125 g unsalted butter (1 stick  + 1/4 stick )
1 tea spoon vanilla essence
1 cup hot water
1/2 cup carob powder (chocolate lovers can use chocolate powder )
2 tea spoon lemon juice
1 cup milk
1 2/3 cup all purpose flour
1 tea spoon baking powder
1 tea spoon baking soda (khane ka soda)


  • Mix carob powder in a hot water and keep aside.
  • Whisk lemon juice with the milk to sour and keep aside(its a egg re-placer).
  • Mix sugar, butter and vanilla essence together, whisk them properly until light and fluffy.

  • Now add carob mixture in a butter sugar mixture and whisk it properly.
  • Now combine lemon milk in a mixture mix it and then slowly add all purpose flour, baking powder and baking soda.
  • Cream it properly, so that everything get mixed.
  • Preheat oven 355 F in Celsius  its 180 C.
  • Pour the mixture into greased pan.
  • Bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until tooth pic came out clean.
  • Turn out and allow to cool completely before frosting and icing. 
  • You can use cream heavy cream frosting or whatever you like.


  • You can take carob powder less or more as per taste. 
  • Chocolate lover can use chocolate powder instead of carob.
