Rava Idli Recipe/ Instant Idli Recipe

Rava Idli Recipe


2 cups rawa/ suji/ semolina
1 cup curd
1 tsp eno
salt to taste
water as required 

For seasoning

2 green chilies chopped 
1 tea spoon mustard seeds
1 tea spoon spoon chana dal
1 table spoon urad dal 
pinch of asphatida (hing)
7 to 8 curry leaves chopped
1 table spoon oil


In the  pan, add 1 tsp oil more and heat it.
Splutter mustard seeds, then add chana dal, urad dal, curry leaves, green chilis & asafoetida. fry till the chana dal become golden now add rawa in it and saute it for 4 to 5 minutes.
Now remove it from heat , transfer it to a bowl and then add curd/yogurt and salt, add water as required and make a batter which is neither thin nor thick.
Keep aside covered for 5 to 10 minutes, grease the idli stand with oil or ghee.
Heat water in a idli steaming pan or pressure cooker.
Just before steaming, add eno in the batter and mix well.
Pour the idli batter in greased idli molds.
Place the idli stand in the steamer , steam the idlis for 10-12 mins or more till a tooth pick inserted in the idlis come out clean.
Remove the  idlis from the mold with spoon 
Serve  hot rava idlis with chutuny or sambhar , or you can make both.


You can use pinch of baking soda  as well if you don't have or you don't want to use eno.
